Changing the way humans take the earth and its resources for granted could start with considering how one species contributes to our survival - trees. They are key not just for us (oxygen, shade) but whole ecosystems. Furthermore a tree lives and acts most fully in community. Can we learn from them as we learn to protect them?
Elaine Savory, Ph.D., is an Emeritus Professor from the New School (NYC) and the recently retired chair of the Environmental Studies Department. A dynamic speaker, Dr. Savory is a pioneer in the new field of "Environmental Humanities", which utilizes humanities training to interpret environmental science to a wider readership, finding innovative pathways to combine different ways of thinking and knowledge.
