The goal of this series is to show tweens/teens that many people don’t just decide they are going to be (insert career title here) and that is the end of the story.
They have taken roundabout paths, done a variety of completely different things, tried more than one field—and guess what? That’s okay! It’s time to demystify the idea of a straight line career path.
About Sara Hanna:

Sara Hanna is an Atlanta-based commercial and editorial photographer with a talent for bringing portraits and product shots to life. Commercially, she counts such luxury brands as the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, Umi, and The Waldorf Astoria among her clients, and she’s photographed prominent locals including as Food Network regulars Hugh Acheson and Kevin Rathbun, and celebrities like Ludacris, actress Vera Farmiga and Zendaya. In addition to serving as Chief Photographer for Simply Buckhead Magazine, her work has appeared in People Style Watch, O, The Oprah Magazine, The Atlantan, Bespoke for St. Regis Atlanta, Jezebel, Men’s Book and others.
About Dawn Thomson:
Dawn Thomson is a jazz guitarist and vocalist born in Hastings, Nebraska and who grew up in Montreal.
Dawn graduated with a BFA at Concordia University in Montreal. She received two Canada Council grants that helped her move to New York City where she studied privately with renowned guitarists Jim Hall and Emily Remler. She later became part of the jazz faculty at the New School University, in NYC.
It was during the 1990s that Thomson began collaborating with many NYC jazz artists including Matt Wilson, Renee Rosnes, Gary Versace, Ron Miles and many others. Dawn has released six CDs as a bandleader and composer and has performed and toured around the world including many jazz festivals and clubs in Europe, Canada, and the US.
This year she has recorded and toured extensively with Matt Wilson’s Honey and Salt. Their newest release won album of the year by the Jazz Journalists Association.
She currently lives in Rochester, NY with her husband, John Nugent, who produces the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival and their two children Jess (class of 2020) and Amelia (class of 2025).
